Jane married James Dinsdale and had one child to him in 1858 at
Middleton in Teesdale. Then she went to work for William Pears as
housekeeper and had three more children (1861-1865) - these children
were registered as children of James Dinsdale and Jane, but VERY
STRONG suspicions exist that they were the children of William Pears
and Jane. Jane then had three more children (1870-74) who were
registered as children of William Pears and his "wife" Jane. No
trace of a marriage was found and James Dinsdale was still alive.
Another point of interest - they moved house between each of the
first 4 births. On the 1881 census the 3 children who were
supposedly Dinsdales are shown as "Pears". Also for the birth
registration of the last two children, the wife's maiden name is
given as is given as "Watson" - the previous one was given as
"Allison", but in no case is "Dinsdale" mentioned. The family has
not been located on the 1871 census. A family bible lists the
children and shows no difference between the first three and the
last three.
